Wilma L. Amos, 53, of Richeyville, died at 1:39 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008, in her home.
She was born December 28, 1954, in Hampton, Va., a daughter of William Amos of Brownsville and Dorothy Fatula Robaugh of Cokeburg.
She was a 1972 graduate of Bentworth High School.
She was a certified nurse’s assistant for many years.
She loved cats. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden, cultivating and caring for what she planted.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a daughter, Kristie Smitley and husband Brian of Ellsworth; a son, Brandon Bostich of Ellsworth; and two granddaughters, Hannah Lee Smitley and Alexis Mary Smitley.
Deceased is her paternal grandmother, Ruth Amos.

Ruth A. Ladner Davidson, 89, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully early Tuesday, December 2, 2008.
Mrs. Davidson was a devoted nurse with a loving passion for friends and family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Harold J.; devoted mother of Lawrence (Phyllis), Thomas (Nancy), John (Victoria), Richard (Carol), Ruth Scherer (Steve Sienkiel) and Maryann; and loving grandmother “Nanny” to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 10-year Latrobe Steel employee
Patricia McCormick Gray of Washington died peacefully and painlessly in her home Monday, December 1, 2008, following 11 months of living with cancer. Although the disease sapped her physical strength, it was unable to steal her emotional strength and determination.
She enjoyed her family and friends, her passion for knowledge and understanding, and her gardening and her home throughout the seasons until her last moments.
Mrs. Gray was born November 21, 1920, in Latrobe, a daughter of William Edward and Jessie Smith McCormick.
She graduated from Latrobe High School and attended Sullins College in Virginia, leaving after two years so that a younger sibling could attend college.
Prior to her marriage in 1952, she was employed by Latrobe Steel for 10 years.
Surviving are daughters Nancy R. Gray of Washington and Deborah G. (Vincent A.) Scardina of Key West, Fla.; and grandchildren who brought her much pride and joy Cara Leigh Shaffer, Vincent Gray Scardina and Richard Anothony (Tony) Scardina. She also leaves her husband’s family and her many treasured friends who enriched her life and became like family.
Deceased are husband Richard Roihan Gray, retired Air Force lieutenant colonal, originally of Greensburg, who passed away in 1987; and siblings Phyllis McCormick Snyder, Dorothy McCormick, Edward McCormick, Robert Kelly McCormick and William McCormick.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m., the hour of service, Saturday, December 13, in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington. Friends and family will be received in her home for an open house and light meal following service. Mrs. Gray will be interred with her husband in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery at a later date. Washington woman formerly of California state
Lory Ann Crompton Jenkins, 48, of Washington, formerly of Montara, Calif., died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh, as a result of injuries received in a fire.
She was born March 26, 1960, in Washington, a daughter of Gladys L. Clark Crompton of Washington and the late George Byron “Bunny” Crompton.
She was married for 26 years to Jim Jenkins of Sparks, Nev.
Surviving, in addition to her mother and former husband, are two nephews, Jeffrey O. and Mark A. Crompton.
Deceased is a brother, Jeffrey Allen Crompton.

Willard B. Jones Sr.
1924-2008
Willard B. Jones Sr., 84, of Washington, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008, in Bellmead Apartments, Washington, where he resided for several years.
He was born June 1, 1924, in Washington, the only son of James B. and Grace L. Moore Jones.
Mr. Jones attended both Washington and Trinity high schools and was a longtime employee of Jessop Steel Co. for 21 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the former Pilgrim Holiness Church and attended First Church of Nazarene, Washington. Mr. Jones was a member of Jessop Club and enjoyed stamp collecting.
Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in central Europe as a member of the Anti I Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
On April 17, 1958, he married Josephine Mae Wilson of Log Pile, who survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are a son, Willard B. Jones Jr.; a granddaughter, Jenna Jones of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation, and burial will be private.

Benjamin A. Phillips, 76, of Marianna, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008.
He was born April 27, 1932, in Marianna, a son of Abraham and Celeste Moore Phillips.
Mr. Phillips attended Franklin Elementary and West Bethlehem High School.
He worked as a farmer and was employed at Penn Manufacturing in Washington.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Highland Brethren Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, church usher and trustee. He also was a former member and officer of Laurel Grange 2029, enjoyed walking, watching sports, playing softball and keeping up on family history.
Surviving are four sisters, Pauline (Robert) Shuman of Womelsdorf, Janice (Daniel) Forney of Marianna, Bonnie (Donald) Phillips of Warren, Ohio, and Rose (Otis) Friend of Marianna; two brothers, Robert (Sandra) Phillips of Kings Beach, Calif., and Carl (Ruth) Phillips of Chetek, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, Clarence Phillips, J. Ronald Phillips and Homer Phillips; and two sisters, Jessie Phillips and Edith Shrontz.

A&S Railroad retiree was Korean conflict veteran
William August Reese Sr., 78, of Burgettstown, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in Consulate Health Care, McMurray.
He was born May 28, 1930, in Hanlin Station, a son of Edward and Pauline Kenny Reese.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Reese was employed by A&S Railroad in Aliquippa.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Burgettstown.
Mr. Reese was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean conflict.
On August 9, 1952, he married Norma York, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Susan Lindley (Ron) of Burgettstown and Terri Muran (Jim) of Walton, Ky.; two sons, William A. Reese Jr. (Sandy) of Lakeland, Fla., and Joseph L. Reese (Kathy) of Winchester, Va.; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Deceased are six brothers, Andrew, Edward, Joseph, John, Lee and Mark Reese.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, December 5, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Robert Connolly, pastor, as celebrant. Inurnment will be held at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Arrangements will be handled by Taucher Funeral Home, Burgettstown.

Herman R. Strube
Robena Mine retiree was Greene Valley church elder
Herman R. Strube, 84, of Carmichaels, went to be with the Lord at 7 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in Donnell House, Washington.  
He was born May 8, 1924, in German Township, Fayette County, a son of Daniel William and Charlotte Parker Strube.
Mr. Strube resided in Carmichaels since 1952 and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific.
In 1958, he was ordained an elder at the former Glades Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels, where he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Mr. Strube later taught Sunday school at Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, where he was a member and elder.  
He volunteered as assistant scout leader at one time in Carmichaels and also managed Carmichaels King Coal Little League.
 In 1986, Mr. Strube retired from Consolidation Coal Co., Robena Mine, and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Robena Local 6321 and a former member of Carmichaels Senior Center.  
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  
On June 27, 1946, he married O. Jean Beatty, who survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, James R. Strube and wife Elizabeth of Leesburg, Ind., and Mark E. Strube and wife Tammy of Carlisle; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Hale, Debra Strube, Matthew Strube, Stephanie Strube, Andrew Strube, John Rensberger, Katrina Rensberger, Caleb Rensberger and Andrew Rensberger; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, John C. Strube of Masontown; and several nieces and nephews.  
Deceased are a daughter, Judy Rae Strube, who died in infancy; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Lackey; a brother, Charles W. Strube; and a sister, Henrietta Lynn.

Reva Jean Tarolli Tritschler, 78, of Canonsburg, died Monday, December 1, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
She was born May 1, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of Edward Charles and Mary Olive Moore Bennett.
Mrs. Tritschler was a 1949 graduate of Trinity High School.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Houston.
Mrs. Tritschler was an assistant manager for Freight Liquidators for 10 years, retiring in 1985.
On June 28, 1986, she married Ronald J. Tritschler, who survives.  
In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter, Sandy Romanowski (George) of Smethport; a brother, Charles E. Bennett of Palm City, Fla.; a sister, Gladys Elsleger of Canonsburg; four stepchildren, William Tritschler (Donna) of Bethel Park, Kimberly Decker (William) of Avella and Stacy Wolf (Gary) and Robert Tritschler (Michelle), both of Finleyville; 10 grandchildren, Blaise, Zachary and Dylan Tritschler, Jason, Leslie, Matthew and Megan Decker, Jessica Wolf and Chelsea and Lance Tritschler; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Ralph Bennett, and two sisters, Katherine Anderson Heatley and Evelyn Folkens.

UPS employee was avid Steelers fan
Thomas M. Underkoffler, 41, of Quaker Hill, unexpectedly passed Saturday, November 29, 2008.
 Born in Fitchburg, Mass., a son of Floyd (Ted) and Linda Esposito Underkoffler, he was the eldest of their four children.
He was employed by United Parcel Service in Bozrah for the past 9 years, and he was a member of the Teamsters union.
An avid Steelers fan, Mr. Underkoffler was a wonderful, fun-loving man.
A boater at heart, he loved the ocean and dreamed to live in a beach house to enjoy the warmth and sunshine.
Although it was short, his life was full and happy.
Deceased is his mother, Linda.
 Surviving are his father, Ted of Enfield, Conn.; siblings and their spouses, Paul and Vanessa Underkoffler of Yelm, Wash., Jennifer and Geoffrey Rouisse of Oakdale, Conn., and Christine Underkoffler of Quaker Hill, Conn.; a paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Underkoffler of Canonsburg; nieces and nephews Zachary, Joshua, Nicole, Bailey, Mason, Austin John and Kyndall; an aunt, Barbara Esposito of Groton, Conn.; and other aunts and uncles.
He was loved and adored by many people, especially by his recent companion, Leona Bradford.

Surviving are four sisters, Pauline (Robert) Shuman of Womelsdorf, Janice (Daniel) Forney of Marianna, Bonnie (Donald) Phillips of Warren, Ohio, and Rose (Otis) Friend of Marianna; two brothers, Robert (Sandra) Phillips of Kings Beach, Calif., and Carl (Ruth) Phillips of Chetek, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three brothers, Clarence Phillips, J. Ronald Phillips and Homer Phillips; and two sisters, Jessie Phillips and Edith Shrontz.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1728 Main Street, Marianna, PA 15345, and from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Saturday, December 6, in Highland Brethren Church, Marianna. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Child Evangelism Outreach, Route 18, Washington, PA 15301.

William August Reese Sr.

A&S Railroad retiree was Korean conflict veteran

William August Reese Sr., 78, of Burgettstown, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, in Consulate Health Care, McMurray.

He was born May 28, 1930, in Hanlin Station, a son of Edward and Pauline Kenny Reese.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Reese was employed by A&S Railroad in Aliquippa.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Burgettstown.

Mr. Reese was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean conflict.

On August 9, 1952, he married Norma York, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Susan Lindley (Ron) of Burgettstown and Terri Muran (Jim) of Walton, Ky.; two sons, William A. Reese Jr. (Sandy) of Lakeland, Fla., and Joseph L. Reese (Kathy) of Winchester, Va.; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Deceased are six brothers, Andrew, Edward, Joseph, John, Lee and Mark Reese.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, December 5, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Robert Connolly, pastor, as celebrant. Inurnment will be held at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Arrangements will be handled by Taucher Funeral Home, Burgettstown.

Herman R. Strube

Robena Mine retiree was Greene Valley church elder

Herman R. Strube, 84, of Carmichaels, went to be with the Lord at 7 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in Donnell House, Washington.  

He was born May 8, 1924, in German Township, Fayette County, a son of Daniel William and Charlotte Parker Strube.

Mr. Strube resided in Carmichaels since 1952 and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific.

In 1958, he was ordained an elder at the former Glades Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels, where he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Mr. Strube later taught Sunday school at Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, where he was a member and elder.  

He volunteered as assistant scout leader at one time in Carmichaels and also managed Carmichaels King Coal Little League.

 In 1986, Mr. Strube retired from Consolidation Coal Co., Robena Mine, and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Robena Local 6321 and a former member of Carmichaels Senior Center.  

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  

On June 27, 1946, he married O. Jean Beatty, who survives.

In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, James R. Strube and wife Elizabeth of Leesburg, Ind., and Mark E. Strube and wife Tammy of Carlisle; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Hale, Debra Strube, Matthew Strube, Stephanie Strube, Andrew Strube, John Rensberger, Katrina Rensberger, Caleb Rensberger and Andrew Rensberger; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, John C. Strube of Masontown; and several nieces and nephews.  

Deceased are a daughter, Judy Rae Strube, who died in infancy; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Lackey; a brother, Charles W. Strube; and a sister, Henrietta Lynn.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 6, in Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels, with the Rev. P. Keith Larson and the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown, with full military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Building Fund of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320-0363.

Reva Jean Tarolli Tritschler

Assistant manager of Freight Liquidators

Reva Jean Tarolli Tritschler, 78, of Canonsburg, died Monday, December 1, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

She was born May 1, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of Edward Charles and Mary Olive Moore Bennett.

Mrs. Tritschler was a 1949 graduate of Trinity High School.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Houston.

Mrs. Tritschler was an assistant manager for Freight Liquidators for 10 years, retiring in 1985.

On June 28, 1986, she married Ronald J. Tritschler, who survives.  

In addition to her husband, surviving are a daughter, Sandy Romanowski (George) of Smethport; a brother, Charles E. Bennett of Palm City, Fla.; a sister, Gladys Elsleger of Canonsburg; four stepchildren, William Tritschler (Donna) of Bethel Park, Kimberly Decker (William) of Avella and Stacy Wolf (Gary) and Robert Tritschler (Michelle), both of Finleyville; 10 grandchildren, Blaise, Zachary and Dylan Tritschler, Jason, Leslie, Matthew and Megan Decker, Jessica Wolf and Chelsea and Lance Tritschler; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Ralph Bennett, and two sisters, Katherine Anderson Heatley and Evelyn Folkens.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, with the Rev. Sang K. Choi officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

Thomas M. Underkoffler

UPS employee was avid Steelers fan

Thomas M. Underkoffler, 41, of Quaker Hill, unexpectedly passed Saturday, November 29, 2008.

 Born in Fitchburg, Mass., a son of Floyd (Ted) and Linda Esposito Underkoffler, he was the eldest of their four children.

He was employed by United Parcel Service in Bozrah for the past 9 years, and he was a member of the Teamsters union.

An avid Steelers fan, Mr. Underkoffler was a wonderful, fun-loving man.

A boater at heart, he loved the ocean and dreamed to live in a beach house to enjoy the warmth and sunshine.

Although it was short, his life was full and happy.

Deceased is his mother, Linda.

 Surviving are his father, Ted of Enfield, Conn.; siblings and their spouses, Paul and Vanessa Underkoffler of Yelm, Wash., Jennifer and Geoffrey Rouisse of Oakdale, Conn., and Christine Underkoffler of Quaker Hill, Conn.; a paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Underkoffler of Canonsburg; nieces and nephews Zachary, Joshua, Nicole, Bailey, Mason, Austin John and Kyndall; an aunt, Barbara Esposito of Groton, Conn.; and other aunts and uncles.

He was loved and adored by many people, especially by his recent companion, Leona Bradford.

The family will be holding calling hours from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Avenue, Niantic, Conn. The funeral procession will assemble at 8 a.m. Saturday, December 6, in the funeral home and will proceed to a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, 317 Chesterfield Road, East Lyme, Conn.
