North Strabane approves fire services study with Peters
North Strabane Township will be conducting a $28,800 study with Peters Township on the fire services of the two municipalities and whether some of those services can be consolidated.
North Strabane’s supervisors unanimously approved the plan Tuesday, one night after Peters Township’s council did the same.
Public Safety Solutions, Inc. of Chester, Md. will be conducting the study and it’s expected to take somewhere in the neighborhood of three to four months, according to Frank Siffrinn, North Strabane’s manager. It should be completed by the time the two townships assemble their budgets for 2013.
North Strabane and Peters, which will be splitting the cost of the study, are neighbors and the two Washington County communities that are experiencing the most vigorous growth. The two fire companies have been assisting one another with overnight emergencies and manpower and equipment issues during daylight hours. Members of both departments also train together frequently.
North Strabane has a new substation that will be opening soon near the Meadows Racetrack & Casino, and two other stations. Peters has one primary station and one substation.
