Frankie I’s gets OK to rebuild

The owner of a popular bar and restaurant, destroyed by fire in January, has gotten approval to begin rebuilding.

Frankie I’s Bar & Grille’s preliminary and final site plans were approved by the board of supervisors in North Strabane Township Tuesday night.

The board had tabled action on the plans in September, asking owner Frank Iannarelli to secure additional parking. Iannarelli has been able to add 17 more parking spaces by leasing them from neighboring businesses. He told supervisors those will be five-year leases.

He also said he may be able to add another 4 spaces. All the additional parking will be valet parking. He has secured a lease with a company to provide valet parking.

He told the board he has to provide documentation on the leases in order to get an occupancy permit.

Iannarelli has eliminated a row of parking along Route 19 which concerned supervisors because it was so close to the highway. There also will be no parking along Meadowview Road.

A fire that is believed to have begun in the kitchen led to the blaze which demolished the century-old barn which had stood at the corner of Route 19 and Zeman Drive.

As soon as he secures building permits Iannarelli plans to begin reconstruction. He said the exterior of the building will resemble a barn but he has yet to decide how the interior will look. He expects to reopen in the spring.
