Drug, endangerment charges pending

A Canonsburg woman faces drug and child endangerment charges after allegedly driving 90 to 100 mph while making a drug run Thursday to and from Pittsburgh’s Mt. Washington section with her young son strapped in a child safety seat.

The woman, whom Canonsburg police did not identify because charges have yet to be filed, was speeding north on Interstate 79 Thursday by a borough police officer who is assigned to work with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency. He followed her to the Mt. Washington area.

“When she came back to Canonsburg, she was again going 90 to 100 mph,” said Canonsburg police Detective Sgt. Al Coghill.

She was stopped near her home, near South Central Elementary School. Her boyfriend was in the vehicle, police said, along with her 14-month-old son.

Police found six stamp bags of suspected heroin. Coghill said the woman admitted making a drug run to Pittsburgh.

“We have been aware of her and her boyfriend,” Coghill said.

Washington County Children and Youth Services took custody of the boy. Officials there are continuing their investigation.

Coghill said the woman and her boyfriend, who are both in their 30s, face charges pending the outcome of the CYS investigation. Neither is currently in police custody.

Coghill said the investigation did not necessitate a lockdown at South Central Elementary School.
