No. 1 Indiana stops Georgia

Victor Oladipo had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 1 Indiana to a 63-53 victory over Georgia Monday night in the semifinals of the Progressive Legends Classic at the Barclays Center.


Jordan Hulls and Christian Watford both had 14 points for the Hoosiers (4-0) and they were the ones who finally started hitting from long range as Indiana established control of the game.


The Hoosiers will face the winner of the game between No. 11 UCLA and Georgetown for the title on Tuesday night.


Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Vincent Williams both had 14 points for Georgia (1-3), which lost its third straight.


North Carolina 95, Mississippi State 45: Leslie McDonald scored 21 points as one of five North Carolina players in double-figures in an easy 95-49 win over Mississippi State at the Maui Invitational. P.J. Hairston had 18 points in 15 minutes, Reggie Bullock had 16 points, and Dexter Strickland and James McAdoo each scored 10. Roquez Johnson led the Bulldogs with 12 points.


Butler 72, Marquette 71: Butler’s Rotnei Clarke hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to shock Marquette 72-71 at the start of the Maui Invitational.


Clarke hit the improbable basket after the Bulldogs (2-1) drove the length of the court down two points with less than eight seconds left.


Clarke who had missed most of his 3-point shots for the game pulled up from the right side and was mobbed on the gym floor by his teammates after the shot went through.


Wake Forest 74, Mercer 71: Travis McKie scored 23 points, including a dunk with 18 seconds remaining that gave Wake Forest its first lead of the game in a 74-71 victory over Mercer in the Paradise Jam. Wake Forest (2-2) trailed by 10 with 10:34 left, but chipped away at the deficit.


Georgetown 78, UCLA 70: Markel Starks scored 23 points and Georgetown beat No. 11 UCLA 78-70 in the semifinals of the Progressive Legends Classic at the Barclays Center, spoiling the college debut of Shabazz Muhammad.


Otto Porter had 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Hoyas (3-0), who will face No. 1 Indiana in Tuesday night’s championship game. The Hoosiers beat Georgia 66-53.


Virginia Tech 96, UNC-Greensboro 87: Jarell Eddie scored a career-high 28 points and Virginia Tech hit a season-high 14 3-pointers to fend off UNC Greensboro 96-87.


Erick Green added a career-best 26 points and Robert Brown had 10 for the Hokies (4-0), who had to hold off a late Spartans’ rally to remain undefeated.


South Carolina 88, Rider 76: South Carolina hit a season-high 13 3-pointers to cruise past Rider 88-76 in a nonconference game. Junior Brenton Williams made five 3-pointers to lead the way as he scored a career-high 22 points to pace four Gamecocks in double figures. Freshman Mindaugas Kacinas added a career-best 18 points, Lakeem Jackson finished with 14 and LaShay Page chipped in with 12 points.
