WAYNESBURG – A fire early Wednesday caused minor damage to the roof of the Kyowa America Corp. building on Route 21 in Franklin Township.
Waynesburg-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company was called to the building at 5:30 a.m., fire Chief Jeff Marshall said.
Marshall said the fire was extinguished fairly quickly and about a 20-square-foot section of the roof was damaged.
Kyowa announced in February that it was closing the plant. Workers are now removing equipment from the building, Marshall said.
The fire company had a busy night, responding two other calls prior to the one at Kyowa.
The company was called at 3:20 a.m. to an alarm at Respi Center West in West Waynesburg. The alarm had been activated by someone burning food.
The company also was called at 3:40 a.m. to clean up a gasoline spill on Route 21 near Interstate 79 caused by a problem with a fuel tank on a pickup truck.
