Claysville American Legion Post 639 recently presented a $6,000 check to Mike Honatis, director of the Oakland Fisher House Foundation. Fisher houses are “comfort homes” at military bases and VA medical facilities throughout the world. The Fisher House program began in 1990 and provides family members with a home while their loved ones are hospitalized at a military treatment facility or Department of Veterans Affairs medical center. The American Legion of Pennsylvania is a major contributor to the program, donating more than $250,000. The Fisher House in Pittsburgh will be dedicated Dec. 4. Participating in the check presentation were, first row, from left, 25th District Commander Fred Ceccini, Judd Caldwell, Mahlon Sibert, Dave Cumer, Mark Danley, Honatis and Mike Clark; and second row, 25th District Commander, Sons of the American Legion, Steve Cox, Elden Morris, Tony Luskoski and Rick Sibert.
