McMURRAY – Peters Township High School students were evacuated Wednesday morning after administrators were notified of a bomb threat written on a restroom wall.

The district issued a statement that was sent to parents Wednesday afternoon, according to Shelly Belcher, district spokeswoman.

“Earlier today, a student alerted the administration that a bomb threat was posted on a wall inside a student restroom. While this threat was general and did not appear credible, the district takes all safety matters very seriously and the building was placed on lockdown.”

With assistance from the school resource office who is on-site during school hours, additional members of the Peters Township police department and Peters Township firefighters searched the building, Belcher said.

The notification of the threat occurred at 11:30 a.m. and to facilitate the search, students were evacuated at 11:50 p.m. Students remained outside for about 15 to 20 minutes, Belcher said.

Once the lockdown ended, students returned to the building and classes resumed.

“Over the next several days, there will be increased supervisory and security presence in the building and administration will continue their investigation into the origin of the threat,” the statement indicates.
