Monongahela police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of a man accused of assaulting a woman over a five-day period starting about Thanksgiving.

Raymond Mangler, 54, of 205 W. Main St., Apt. 14, is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, simple assault, terroristic threats and theft.

Police Chief Brian Tempest said police were contacted by a doctor in Rostraver Township when the 57-year-old woman, who resides with Mangler, went for a scheduled appointment. Tempest said the woman had been severely beaten and had two black eyes, as well as other injuries.

“She said that it had been going on for several days and that her eyes had been actually blackened five days before police were called,” Tempest said. “She said the assaults actually started back in July.”

Mangler also reportedly put a knife to her throat and threatened to slit it, police said.

“She said she was terrified for her life,” Tempest said.

The woman usually uses a motorized wheelchair and suffers from several medical conditions.

Tempest said Mangler took her to her doctor’s appointment Monday, but fled when he saw police arrive. He also took her 1991 Dodge Dynasty.

The warrant was issued by District Judge Mark Wilson. Anyone with information on Mangler’s whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-258-5511 or call 911.
