WAYNESBURG – As part of the activities and festivities during the Holiday Open House Friday evening in downtown Waynesburg, “Buy Local, Buy Greene” will officially launch as Greene County’s Buy Local network.

The campaign aims to educate consumers on the impact they can have on their local economy by spending their money within Greene County. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to increase traffic to locally owned businesses in order to generate more revenue for the community. The multi-faceted campaign includes information about both shopping locally and purchasing food from area farmers.

“We hope that through this campaign, we will be able to increase traffic to local businesses, as well as get people excited and proud to spend money with local merchants,” said Lindsey Biddle, chairman of the “Buy Local, Buy Greene” committee. “The Holiday Open House is the perfect event for our launch as the community comes together to shop and support our small businesses.”

As part of the campaign’s launch, the committee is issuing a challenge to the community. The first 25 people who take the Buy Local challenge and pledge to spend a certain dollar amount monthly will receive a free “Buy Local, Buy Greene” tote bag. The challenge can be taken online at www.waynesburgpa.org/buylocal, or by visiting the “Buy Local, Buy Greene” table Friday evening in front of the Greene County Courthouse.

Tote bags will also be sold Friday night, with all proceeds benefiting the campaign, and free materials including pins and bookmarks will be distributed as well.

“Buy Local, Buy Greene” is a joint initiative of area businesses and non-profits, including Community Bank, Greene County Conservation District, Greene County Tourism, University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center, Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful and the Waynesburg University Center for Research and Economic Development.
