Retired coal miner enjoyed sports
Charles E. “Sonny” Morris, 72, of Houston, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 14, 1940, in Washington, a son of the late Charles Dorsey and Emma Hughes Morris.
Mr. Morris was a 1962 graduate of Washington High School.
He retired in 2005, following 36 years as a coal miner for Consol Energy’s Eighty Four Mine.
Mr. Morris enjoyed sports, especially football on all levels and spending time with his grandchildren.
On March 19, 1971, he married Dorothy L. “Dottie” O’Shanka, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Eva Marie Harris (Dave) of Charleroi; a son, Charles E. Morris II of Houston; three grandchildren, John Russell, Courtney Young (Robert) and Shaunna Morris; a great-grandson, Axel Young; a brother, Gary D. Morris (Penny) of Radcliffe, Ky.; a sister, Marjorie Lease (Joel) of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Alfred “Pete,” Lloyd “Buck” and Andrew Franklin “Hoagie” Morris, and two sisters, Sara Martin and Janet Grimm.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 8, with Lloyd Morris, nephew of the deceased, officiating.
