Jackson Township reading center to close
Because of a shift in the population in the surrounding area, the Greene County Library System board of trustees voted to end operations of the Jackson Township Reading Center in Holbrook at the end of the year.
The Jackson Township Reading Center opened in April 2008 as a cooperative venture between the Greene County Library System and Jackson Township supervisors. Since then, it has been home to lendable items and public access computers.
Therese Barry, administrator of the Greene County Library System, said, “Even though we are coming to the end of one experience, we are exploring options to provide new services. Library services must constantly evolve, because the way we learn and consume entertainment is always changing.”
Greene County has two libraries, Eva K. Bowlby Library in Waynesburg and Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels. There is one remaining reading center, the Thomas Hughes House in Jefferson.
The operating hours of the Jackson Township Reading Center through the end of the year are 3:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It will be closed Dec. 24 and 25. It will be open on its final day, Dec. 31.
