Tim Swoope, made a go-ahead three-pointer – the 13th by Peters Township on the night – with one minute remaining and the Indians held off visiting Allderdice 49-47 in a non-section game Tuesday night.
Peters Township (2-1) played without Gabe Pritz, the Observer-Reporter’s Player of the Year last season.
Without Pritz’s scoring in the low post, PT went outside for its points. Nick Parello made four three-pointers and finished with a team-high 14 points. But it was Swoope’s only basket of the game that gave PT a 48-47 lead. After a missed shot by Allderdice, PT made a free throw that pushed the lead to two points.
With fouls to give before putting Allderdice (1-2) in the bonus, PT was able to run time off the clock before forcing the Dragons into a long and desperation three-pointer that missed at the final buzzer.
Lavelle Segers led Allderdice with 12 points. Cornelius Raye and Davaughn Moultrie had 10 points each.
Burgettstown 63, Charleroi 55, OT: Jonathan Sabo made a three-pointer that forced overtime, then scored seven points in the extra time to lead Burgettstown to a 63-55 victory over visiting Charerloi in a non-section contest.
Charleroi (0-2) had erased a seven-point halftime deficit and led 52-49 when Sabo made a three-pointer – his fifth of six in the game – with 12 seconds remaining. Sabo, who finished with a game-high 24 points, added another three-pointer in overtime.
Ryan Glover also had a big game for Burgettstown (2-2) with 18 points.
Charleroi’s Eric Johnson scored 21 points and was supported by Matt Idorante, who tossed in 11.
Carmichaels 61, Frazier 40: Brandon Lawless scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in the first quarter as undefeated Carmichaels turned a fast start into a 61-40 victory over visiting Frazier in a non-section game.
Lawless helped the Mikes (3-0) forge a 22-9 lead after one quarter and Carmichaels stretched the advantage to 52-24 after three quarters before clearing its bench.
Sean Smoggie scored 14 points for Carmichales.
Frazier is 1-1.
Norwin 66, Monessen 56: Curtis Perz scored nine of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to help Norwin pull away for a 66-56 victory over Monessen in the opening round of the Franklin Regional tournament.
Norwin (2-1) led 47-45 after three quarters before Perz helped the Knights to a 19-11 advantage over the final eight minutes.
Javon Brown led Monessen (0-3) with 15 points and Clintell Gillespie had 14.
Waynesburg 65, West Greene 20: Dominick Sarra had 16 points and five steals as Waynesburg defeated West Greene, 65-20, in a non-section game.
Corey Dispenza added 12 points for the Raiders (2-2), who led 20-0 after one quarter.
Dustin Shough scored 15 of the 20 points for West Greene (0-2).
Quaker Valley 68, Fort Cherry 47: Burke Moser had 19 points as Quaker Valley beat Fort Cherry, 68-47, in a non-section game.
John Bernard added 15 points for Quaker Valley (3-0), which jumped out to a 20-5 lead.
Nick Zando had 15 points, Zak Dysert 13 and Tyreke Brown 11 for the Rangers (0-3).
McGuffey 63, Southmoreland 42: Taylor Pasquariello’s 17 points paced McGuffey to a 63-42 non-section victory over Southmoreland.
Caleb Reihner added 14 points, Darrell Briggs 12 and Brennan Crimm 10 for the Highlanders (3-0).
Jake Porter’s 10 points led the Scotties (0-3).
Canon-McMillan 60, Latrobe 56: Jake Cadez scored 22 points as Canon-McMillan held off Latrobe, 60-56, in a non-section game.
Brett Haney added 16 points for the Big Macs (3-1).
Matt Cullen led Latrobe (1-2) with 19 points.
Chartiers Valley 51, Canon-McMillan 44: Mariah Wells scored 16 points and Chartiers Valley scored the game’s final six points in the closing minute to hold off Canon-McMillan, 51-44, in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Allexa Golden added 12 points for the Colts (1-0, 2-0), who led by 10 entering the final quarter only to see Canon-McMillan (0-1, 2-1) close the game to 45-44 with a minute remaining.
Brittany Hutchinson had 15 points to lead the Big Macs, who also got 12 points and 10 rebounds from Danielle Parker and 11 points and 11 rebounds from Olivia Lorusso.
Carmichaels 43, Frazier 35: Morgan Berardi scored 21 points and added seven steals and five assists, as Carmichaels earned a 43-35 non-section win over Frazier.
Caroline Cree added 13 points for the Mikes (2-1).
Lauren Timko led Frazier (1-1) with 13 points.
Charleroi 43, Jefferson-Morgan 25: Mia Wytovich had 12 points as Charleroi topped Jefferson-Morgan, 43-25, in a non-section game.
Corina Gottheld and Linsey Wright added 10 points each for the Cougars (2-1).
Kayla Yorko led Jefferson-Morgan (1-2) with 10 points.
Bishop Canevin 49, South Fayette 27: Erin Waskowiak had 20 points as Bishop Canevin turned a 23-6 halftime lead into a 49-27 non-section win over South Fayette.
Carly Force chipped in 13 points for the Crusaders (3-0).
Autumn Mozick led South Fayette (2-1) with nine points.
West Greene 47, Beth-Center 27: West Greene held host Beth-Center to only six first-half points and cruised to a 47-27 victory over in a non-section game.
Madison Raber led West Greene (2-0) with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds, and Alyssa Raber had seven points and 11 rebounds. The Pioneers led 22-6 at halftime.
Anna Bartman scored 17 points for B-C (1-2) and made four three-pointers.
Sewickly Academy 29, Avella 27: Olivia English had 14 points, but Avella couldn’t hold off Sewickly Academy in a non-section game, losing 29-27.
Sewickly Academy is 2-1, Avella 1-2.
Geibel 54, Mapletown 17: Peyton McIntyre scored 17 points and Karly Judy added 12 for the Gators, who led, 35-4, at halftime of this non-section game. Abby Shipley, Rachel Buchtan and Renee Dingel had four points apiece for Mapletown, which fell to 0-3.
