High school basketball roundup: California girls remain unbeaten

Junior guard Tristen Conaway had 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals to help the California girls basketball team to a 51-33 win over Yough in a home, non-section game Wednesday night, helping the Trojans stay undefeated at 5-0.

Brooke Clements added eight points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Courtnee McMasters reached double figures with 12 points.

Brentwood 53, Burgettstown 30: Laura McGowan scored 25 points to lead Brentwood to a non-section win over Burgettstown, which trailed, 28-14, at halftime.

Kristen Roy scored 10 points to lead Burgettstown (0-5). Samantha Scopel added eight.

Jeannette 70, Monessen 43: Ciara Gregory, a Charlotte University recruit, scored 14 of her game-high 31 points as Jeannette pulled away over the final eight minutes to defeat host Monessen 70-43 in a non-section game.

Jeannette (4-1) led 31-24 at halftime and 44-32 after three quarters, then the Jayhawks secured the win with a 26-point fourth quarter. Monika Carl scored 11 points for Jeannette and Sydney Pecarraro had 10.

Mariah Ward led Monessen (0-4) with 15 and Monet Wade had 10. The Greyhounds hurt their chances by making only 14 of 32 free throws. Jeannette made 11 of 13 from the free-throw line.

Boys results

South Fayette 67, North County (Md.) 50: Evan Bonnaure led South Fayette with 22 points, and C.J. Rudisill added 20, as the Lions won their second consecutive game in Maryland. Zach Challingsworth, who played for the first time all season two nights ago, finished with five points. The Lions (4-1) scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to pull away, holding North County to just nine during the final eight minutes.

Corey Martin led North County with 24 points.

OLSH 69, Burgettstown 45: Our Lady of Sacred Heart remained undefeated and moved to 5-0 with a non-section win over Burgettstown. Josh Mack had 19 points to lead Burgettstown (3-5), while Jonathan Sabo added nine.

Cam Johnson had a game-high 21 points to lead OLSH, and Santino Platt added 10.

Chartiers-Houston 76, Mapletown 31: Miles Williamson had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds and the Bucs cruised to an easy non-section win at home. Alec Ferrari also had an impressive night, finishing with 19 points for Chartiers-Houston, which improved to 2-4 and led, 67-24, after three.

Dereck Riggleman led Mapletown (0-6) with 13 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 52, Carmichaels 48: Rece Henneman scored a game-high 20 points and Jefferson-Morgan handed Carmichaels (5-1) its first loss of the season in a non-section game.

Ty Cole led Carmichaels with 18 points. The Rockets (3-4) held Carmichaels’ scoring trio of Brandon Lawless, Josh Mundell and Sean Smoggie to just 21 points – 16 points below the group’s season average.
