High school basketball roundup: Charleroi girls extend winning streak
Charleroi won its fourth game in a row and remained undefeated in Section 5-AA Thursday night with a 50-40 road victory over South Side Beaver.
Charleroi (3-0, 5-1) led 22-18 at halftime and used balanced scoring to open a double-digit lead in the second half. Mia Woytovich led Charleroi with 16 points and Carina Gottheld had 13 points for the Cougars.
Sara Androlia scored a game-high 20 points for South Side Beaver (1-2, 3-4).
Belle Vernon 82, Waynesburg 43: Belle Vernon remained undefeated in Section 4-AAA with an 82-43 victory over host Waynesburg.
Jessica Slagus continued her strong start to the season for Belle Vernon (2-0, 5-1) with a game-high 30 points. Kaitlyn Slagus followed with 14 points and Natalie Eashada had 12.
Michelle Cesa and Lyndsey Huhn each scored 10 points for Waynesburg (0-2, 2-4).
Washington 68, Beth-Center 29: Mya Gordon scored a game-high 24 points and Washington rolled to a 68-29 victory over Beth-Center in a Section 5-AA game.
Alyssa Wide added 10 points for the Prexies (2-1, 3-3), who led 36-13 at halftime.
Anna Bartman sparked B-C (0-2, 2-5) with 21 points.
Steel Valley 51, Chartiers-Houston 38: Cece Dixon tossed in 17 points to help Steel Valley take a 51-38 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a Section 4-AA game.
Laci Gory scored 12 points and Sydney Smith added 11 for Steel Valley (1-1, 4-2).
Ashley Balzer scored nine points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and five steals to lead CH (1-1, 4-3).
Serra 70, Jefferson-Morgan 27: Serra jumped to a 53-6 halftime lead and rolled to a 70-27 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section game.
Lindsay Hoye scored 12 points and Megan Sieg chipped in with 11 for Serra (4-1).
Ally Bogden scored a game-high 13 points for the Rockets (2-4).
Seton-La Salle 95, Fort Cherry 28: Six players scored in double figures to help Seton-La Salle to a 95-28 victory over Fort cherry in a Section 4-AA game.
Nija Gibson led the way with 22 points for the Rebels (3-0, 6-0) and Cassidy Welsh had 17. Shaunay Edmonds and Katrina Parks each tossed in 12 and Morgan Henderson and Natalie Plaggess each scored 10.
Rachel Bellhy led Fort Cherry (1-1, 3-2) with 13 points.
Moon 54, Trinity 47: A strong second half propelled Moon to a 54-47 victory over Trinity in a Section 5-AAA game.
Amirah Moore scored 14 points and Kirsten Gondol 11 for Moon, which outscored the Hillers 35-17 in the second half that erased a 30-19 deficit in the first 16 minutes.
Kelly Korpus poured in 12 points, Lauren Simpson had 11 points and Mary Dunn and Rachel added 10 points apiece to pace Trinity (1-5, 0-3).
California 60, Burgettstown 33: Courtnee McMasters had a double-double to pace California to a 60-33 victory over Burgettstown in a non-section game.
McMasters had 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Trojans (6-0). Tristen Conaway scored 17 points, had nine rebounds and four steals. Natalie Baron had 10 points, five assists and five blocks. Brooke Clements had 11 points.
Samantha Scopel led Burgettstown (0-3, 0-7) with 11 points and Kathryn Tarr chipped in with 10.
Bethel Park 62, Peters Township 19: Megan Marecic scored 19 points to help Bethel Park to a 62-19 victory over Peters Township in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Harper Zimmer added 15 points for the Black Hawks (3-0, 5-1). Cameron Morgan paced PT 0-2, 2-4) with six points.
North Hills 53, Canon-McMillan 43: Jamie Halloran scored 15 points to lead North Hills past Canon-McMillan to a 53-43 victory in a non-section game.
North Hills (3-4) outscored C-M, 27-18, in the second half.
Olivia Lorusso and Danielle Parker each scored 10 points for the Big Macs.
Allderdice 55, Monessen 38: Allderdice opned the fourth quarter with a 13-0 run to pull away and defeat winless Monessen 55-38 on the Greyhounds’ court.
Allderdice (2-3) led 36-35 after three quarters. The Dragons ended a three-game losing streak.
Lavelle Sagers led Allderdice with 16 bpoints. Jordan Smith and Davaughn Moultrie each had 12 points.
Justice Rawlins paced Monessen (0-6) with 13 points and Clintell Gillaspie had 10. The Greyhounds made only six of 15 free throws compared to 14-for-16 for Allderdice.
Chartiers Valley 72, Fort Cherry 42: Brian Kolich scored 22 points and Central Valley defeated host Fort Cherry 72-42 in a non-section game.
Chris Anastas had 12 points and John George 10 as Central Valley (3-3) reached the .500 mark.
Fort Cherry (2-5), which was held to only 11 points over the second and third quarters, received a solid game from Zak Dysert, who scored 15 points. Tyreke Brown contributed 11 points.
Waynesburg 78, Geibel 51: Waynesburg bolted to a 27-11 first quarter lead and breezed to a 78-51 victory over Geibel in a non-section game.
Adam Fox scored a game-high 23 points for the Raiders (3-4) and John Glenn Davis had 15. Dominick Sarra contributed 14 and Cameron Jacobs 10.
Aaron Agostoni led the Gators (0-4) with 18 points.
