AMBRIDGE (AP) – A former Western Pennsylvania high school basketball star who played and graduated from Seton Hall earlier this year has allegedly pulled a gun on a bartender.

Police say the incident happened about 11 p.m. Monday in Ambridge, not far from where 23-year-old Herb Pope starred at Aliquippa Junior-Senior High School. Online court records don’t list an attorney for Pope who faces a preliminary hearing Jan. 8 on charges of simple assault and public drunkenness.

Police say Pope and four friends were denied service when a friend’s ID card was rejected. Police say Pope pulled the gun while confronting the bartender – though he didn’t threaten the man with it.

Pope has a license to carry the gun, though the Beaver County sheriff says it will likely be revoked.

Pope is signed with a professional team in Israel.
