Wrestling roundup: Chartiers-Houston upends Avella
HOUSTON - Garrett Vulcano edged Avella’s Jake Temple, 8-6, in overtime in a battle of PIAA qualifiers from a year ago, as Chartiers-Houston topped the Eagles, 48-16, in a Section 1A wrestling match,
Tanner Sutton, Tug Tatano, Dylan Shultz-Terling and Josh Krashaar had pins for the Bucs (3-0, 3-1).
Andrew Haskakis had a fall for Avella (0-3, 0-3).
West Greene 51, Washington 10: Sheldon Phillips, Matt Johnston, Owen Main, Dalton Wildman and Devon Bedillion had pins as West Greene earned its first Section 2A win of the season, beating Washington, 51-10.
The win improves the Pioneers to 1-2, 1-3.
Kurt Adkins, Shawn Hughes and Elijah Jones won bouts for Washington (1-2, 1-3).
Canon-McMillan 55, McGuffey 19: Cody Wiercioch had a pin in 12 seconds at 170 pounds to lead the Canon-McMillan wrestling team to a 55-19 win over McGuffey in Section 4A-AAA. Connor Schram (132), William Pihiou (152), Sam Minor (160), Alex Campbell (220) and Angelo Broglio (285) also recorded pins for the Big Macs, who improved to 4-0.
McGuffey got wins from Aaron Harris (113), Zach Herrle (182) and Brent Blacharczyk (195).
South Fayette 55, South Park 21: Brandon Keck pinned Jeremy Siedlecki in 90 seconds, as South Fayette dominated the middle weights en route to a 55-21 win over South Park in Section 1A. Seth Carr (120) and Brad Haney (182) also scored pins, and South Fayette won seven consecutive bouts between 145 and 220 to improve to 3-0.
Grant Fetchet had a major decision over Scott Warren at 152 pounds, winning the match 11-0.
Bentworth 68, Mapletown 6: Bentworth recorded seven pins en route to an easy Section 2A-AA win, 68-6, over Mapletown. Jake Rothka (113), Matt Vickless (126), Ty Mitchell (132), Trevor Wood (138), Ethan Tush (145), Paul Mizia (182) and Tyler Reedy (220) all recorded pins. Vince Vahaly got a technical fall for Bentworth (3-0) at 120 pounds, and Mason Shumaker scored a 4-3 decision, via ultimate tiebreaker, over Zach Brown at 285.
Mapletown’s only points came via Keith Popperneck’s forfeit win at 152.
