Underground miner, book collector enjoyed family time
William H. Jefferson Jr., affectionately known to friends as “Willie” and known as “Junie” by family, 60, of Ellsworth, died Monday, January 7, 2013, in his home.
He was born September 19, 1952, in Monongahela, a son of the late William H. and Kathryn Eloise Johnson Jefferson.
He was a 1971 graduate of Bentworth High School.
Mr. Jefferson was an underground miner for Bethlehem Mines Corp.
Mr. Jefferson enjoyed woodworking, leatherworking, fishing, watching classic movies and collecting albums. He was an avid reader, enjoying reading and collecting books and comics. He loved spending time with his family.
He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bentleyville and Ellsworth Sportsmans Club.
Surviving are four sisters, Kathryn Jones of White Lake, Mich., Loretta Taylor (Paul) of Mt Lebanon, Joyce White (Ossie) of Bowie, Md., and Linda Washington of Green Tree; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three sisters, Patricia Ikard, Betty Finch and Rosemarie Franklin; and a niece, Cheryl Ikard.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Guest book and personal condolences may be accessed at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com.
