John W. Wherry III
Retired teacher active in Studebaker Drivers Club
John W. Wherry III, 69, of Clinton, Hanover Township, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, in Heritage Valley, Sewickley.
He was born April 27, 1943, in Washington, a son of the late John Jr. and Mary Phillips Wherry.
Mr. Wherry was a graduate of East Washington High School and received his teaching degree from California State College.
After 25 years, he retired from West Allegheny School District, where he taught history, civics, and drivers’ education and training at the high school.
Mr. Wherry was a member of Oakdale Lodge 669 F&AM, where he was a past master and a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Wa-Che-Gree Forest 1149. He also was a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Order of Amarenth Inc. and Sewickley High Tower Club 759.
He was very active in Studebaker Drivers Club, where he was known as “JWW.”
Surviving are a brother, Jim Wherry and wife Donna; a niece, Andrea Caputo and husband Rob; a cousin, Nancy Luellen; and several other cousins.
Deceased are a niece, Kendra, and a nephew, Douglas.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Wharton-Herrick Funeral Home, Edward M. Herrick, director/owner, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, 724-695-7332, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. A masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. It is respectfully requested that memorial donations be sent to one’s favorite charity.
