Registered nurse enjoyed her vegetable garden

Teresa Papak, 88, of Monongahela, died Monday, January 7, 2013, in Consulate Retirement Village, Canonsburg.

She was born August 25, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Alfredo and Adelaide Serrano Testoni.

Mrs. Papak was a 1943 graduate of St. Justin’s High School in Mt. Washington. Through the Cadet Program, she received her registered nurse certification from Mercy School of Nursing in 1946. She began her nursing career in Monongahela Memorial Hospital in New Eagle and continued in Monongahela Valley Hospital for a total of 34 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish, St. Anthonys Church and its Altar Rosary Christian Mothers and Ladies of Charity. She also held memberships in Mon Valley Nurse’s Association and Mercy Alumni Association.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time in her vegetable garden.

She is survived by a son, Daniel M. Papak and wife Jolynn of Canonsburg; a grandson, Andrew M. Papak; a brother, Fernando Testoni and wife Louise of Green Tree; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Papak, who died April 27, 2007, and a sister, Lucy Ross.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 10, in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, St. Anthonys Church, with the Rev. Pierre M. Falkenhan as celebrant. Committal services and entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Damien of Molokai Altar Rosary Christian Mothers, 722 West Main Street, Monongahela, PA 15063, or Celtic Healthcare, 150 Scharberry Lane, Mars, PA 16046.

The Mon Valley Nurse’s Association will conduct services at 2:30 p.m. followed by the rosaries being recited by St. Damien of Molokai Altar Rosary Christian Mothers at 3 p.m. Both services will be held in the funeral home. Condolences may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
