He then furthered his education and graduated from California State College with a bachelor of science degree in education and a master’s degree in education and administration from West Virginia University.

Mr. Ross started teaching elementary grades in Gastonville School and later became principal of Gastonville and Elrama schools. He was promoted to the main office, serving as director of education facilities, in charge of building and grounds. He drew up the plans for the transportation system and set up the attendance lines for the seven districts that joined to form Ringgold School District. Later, he became assistant superintendent and also served as acting superintendent for 16 months, until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Ross was highly thought of by teachers, students and employees in the district. He loved Ringgold and worked hard to make sure everyone was treated fairly and got what they deserved.
