Jefferson-Morgan edges Bentworth
Jason Miller (152), Jason Perkins (170) and Dustin Conti (195) posted pins to lead Jefferson-Morgan to a 31-30 home win over Bentworth in a Section 2A-Class AA wrestling match Wednesday night.
Miller started things off with a pin of Ethan Tush in 27 seconds. Two matches later, Perkins pinned Kirk Stechly in 2:57, and Conti followed that with a pin of Tanner Severns in 2:50 at 195 pounds.
Jake Rothka, Matt Vickless and Ty Mitchell gave Bentworth wins at 113, 120 and 126 to close the match, but the late push turned out to be not enough.
Rothka’s win was a pin of Zach Tedrow in 1:37.
Jefferson-Morgan’s Ryan Zalar had a major decision over Kenneth Carlisle, and A.J. Agnew decisioned George Liberatore, 4-2, at 145.
Brendan Howard scored an important win, given Bentworth’s late push, with an 8-1 decision over Hunter Neely at 106.
Burgettstown 55, Ellwood City 18: Burgettstown picked up seven pins in a 55-18 victory over Ellwood City in Class AA Section 1B.
Austin McDermitt, John Dennis, Stephen Kotouch, Jake McKee, Matt Abbott, Brad Roberts and Brandon Hucik had pins for the Blue Devils (5-0).
Jordan Lemansky had a pin for Ellwood City.
Chartiers-Houston 49, South Park 26: Chartiers-Houston took advantage of five forfeits to record a 49-26 win over South Park in Class AA Section 1A.
Richie McGinnis had a pin for the Bucs (4-0, 5-1).
Taylor Wentzel and Robert Wolek had falls for South Park.
South Fayette 70, Fort Cherry 3: South Fayette recorded seven falls en route to a 70-3 win over Fort Cherry in Class AA Section 1A.
Andrew Johns, Jasper Wolf, Kevin Chaussard, Mike Carr, Shane Ging, J.J. Walker and Zach Walker had pins for the Lions (4-0).
David Cushey had the lone win for Fort Cherry.
Canon-McMillan 44, Fort Leboeuf 14: Brendon Price (106), Dalton Macri (120), Cody Wiercioch (182) and Steve LaFrance (195) recorded pins, as Canon-McMillan cruised to a 44-14 victory over Fort Leboeuf in a non-section match.
None of the pins required more than 2:16.
Wiercioch’s was the quickest at :35. Price and Macri clocked in at 1:17 and 1:34, respectively. Connor Schram earned a technical fall in 4:13.
McGuffey 68, Moon 6: McGuffey had little trouble with Moon in a Section 4A-AAA match. Four McGuffey wrestlers earned pins, and Eric Whitfield got a technical fall at 132 pounds.
Gage Nicolella pinned Cole Danforth in 33 seconds at 106 pounds; Brady Bedillion took down Jimmy Farbo in 3:29 at 160; Zach Herrle needed just 42 seconds to take down Nathan Barcaskey at 170; and Ryan Stienstraw pinned Eric Clay in 21 seconds at 220 as McGuffey ran its record to 6-4.
Avella 57, Carlynton 15: Brian Gordon pinned Angelo Peluso at 152 pounds, earning the fall at 4:23, and Avella earned a 57-15 victory Carlynton Section 1A Class AA.
Dino Simonelli also recorded a pin at 170 pounds, and Jake Temple needed just 36 seconds for his at 220.
West Greene 66, Mapletown 18: West Greene opened with three pins and was never seriously threatened during a 66-18 win over Mapletown in Section 2A Class AA.
Tyler Gilbert (138), Matt Johnston (145) and Dylan Maine (152) had those pins, Gilbert in 2:34 over Tyler Rumble, Johnson in 1:45 over Dylan Rogers and Maine in 1:28 over Keith Popperneck.
Jeff Isiminger took down Kenny Rhodes of Mapletown in 3:38 at 182 pounds, Cody Jacobs kept it going with a pin in 1:22 of Adam Hein at 195, and Will Vanderman (220) took down Harley Gree in 3:19.
Damien Riley pinned Kyle McCartney in 3:59 at 120 pounds for Mapletown’s biggest win.
Washington 32, Beth-Center 24: Elijah Ellerman and Elijah Jones gave Wash High pins at 182 and 220 pounds, enough for a 32-24 victory over Beth-Center in Section Class AA Section 2A.
Ellerman took care of Frank Dreucci in 3:41, while Jones pinned Josh Vandivner in 5:25.
Jason Stay of Beth-Center pinned Alex Engel in 1:27 for a win at 145 pounds. Nico Brown added a pin of Everett Maine in 2:52 at 160 pounds.
Shawn Hughes recorded a technical fall of Robert Work (16-0) for a victory at 170, as Wash High improved to 2-3.
Peters Township 49, Bethel Park 21: Jake Caputo (152), Christian Phelps (220), Phil Mary (120), Ty Buckiso (126) and Etalo Merante (132) got pins to lead Peters Township to a 49-21 victory over Bethel Park.
Heavyweight Nate Grygo also earned a 4-0 decision over Lucas Cervenak, and Mack Mitchell cruised to a major decision of Nick Heisler, 11-0, at 160 pounds.
