Southpointe to get third hotel
Southpointe is a little closer to adding its third hotel.
The Washington County Authority, at its monthly meeting Thursday evening, approved the sales agreement for a Holiday Inn Express. The agreement calls for a minimum of 85 rooms in a four-story building to be built on 3.3 acres, next to the Hilton Homewood Suites on Horizon Vue Drive. The Hilton Garden Inn, off Corporate Drive in the original Southpointe development, is the other hotel in the mixed-use business and residential park.
Bill Sember, director of operations for the authority, said the developer, North Point Associates, has to begin site work by March 1. He said the authority is hoping for a closing next week.
The authority is in charge of property sales and infrastructure improvements in Southpointe II.
Holiday Inn Express hotels have fewer frills and cater to business travelers and others making overnight stays. This will be the second Holiday Inn Express in Washington County, in addition to one in Bentleyville Borough.
The board also approved a resolution for construction of a buiilding on Woodcliff Drive for a group of nine surgeons known as Southpointe Heights Associates. The sales agreement for the property was approved by the authority in April. A closing on the property is expected next week.
In other action, the authority reappointed at-large member Suzanne Ewing to a five-year term and retained the other five members in their previous positions: Alan Veliky, chairman; Scott Frederick, vice chairman; Bill Burt, treasurer: Dennis Dutton, secretary; and John Rheel, at-large.
There has been a vacancy on the board since Lawrence W. “Bruz” Miller died last January.
