A Washington woman was arrested by city police just after noon Tuesday for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend with a 3-inch steak knife following an argument at their home.

Theresa Cash, 42, of 620 Maple Terrace, is charged by police with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment after she allegedly stabbed Frank Gordon, 52, also of 620 Maple Terrace, in the chest.

City police Lt. David Bradley said the two got into a fight after arguing over the paternity of their 2-year-old son.

“He reportedly threatened to take custody of the boy and she got angry,” Bradley said.

Cash told police that during the argument, she decided she had had enough and grabbed the knife. She was found by police at a neighbor’s house.

Gordon was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of a puncture wound. Washington County Children and Youth Services took temporary custody of the boy. Bradley said they are trying to place him with family members.

Cash was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 30 before Redlinger.
