PT wins, raises $15,000

Peters Township wrapped up first place in sub-section 2-B in Class AAA with a convincing 46-15 victory over Upper St. Clair Wednesday night in a high school wrestling match.


The Indians (5-0, 6-0) also raised $15,000 during the event, which was called the Match for a Marine. All proceeds will go to injured Marine, Doug Vitale, to help him build a handicapped accessible home.


Phil Mary, John Ivashchenko and Mike Ament had pins for PT.


Maurice Swinger recorded a fall for USC (2-3, 2-3).


Jefferson-Morgan 75, Mapletown 6: Jefferson-Morgan recorded nine pins en route to a 75-6 win in Class AA Section 2-A over Mapletown to clinch its sub-section title.


Zach Tedrow, John Demaske, Trevor Kniha, Alex Agnew, Jason Miller, Ryan Zalar Anthony Patterson, Dustin Conti and Nate Wolfe had falls for the Rockets (5-0, 7-5).


Damien Riley had a pin for Mapletown (1-4, 2-8).


Burgettstown 66, Beaver 12: Tyler Nicholson (138), Brad Roberts (182) and Ryan Pendeville (220) recorded falls, as Burgettstown clinched the Section 1B title with a 66-12 rout of visiting Beaver. The Blue Devils are now 7-0 overall.


Nicholson pinned Angelo Nola in overtime at 6:35; Roberts needed just 56 to record a fall of Grant Cable; and Pendeville pinned Jacob Naber in 1:13.


Sam Talorico had Beaver’s only pin – of Levi Lewis in 3:15 at 126 pounds.


Bentworth 55, Washington 16: Jake Rothka (113), Vince Vahaly (126), Ben Carlisle (152) and Jake Fordyce had falls during Bentworth’s 55-16 win over Washington, which helped the Bearcats improve to 4-1 in section.


Rothka needed 2:25 to pin Jordan Dempster; Vahaly finished Kurt Adkins in 1:44; Carlisle took care of Everett Main in 5:15; and Fordyce pinned Nick Demine in 1:36. Mason Shumaker added a decision – 7-2 in overtime – over Keirs Gloady in the heavyweight match. Tanner Severn scored a major decision over Elijah Ellerman at 182 pounds.


Wash High got a pin from Shawn Hughes at 160 pounds and a major decision win George Rogers at 145 pounds.
