Sheldon Keith McKee, 88, of Greensboro, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013.

Born in Rices Landing, on June 21, 1924, he was a son of the late Donald and Dorothy McClain McKee.

Mr. McKee graduated in 1943 from Jefferson High School and was a member of the high school football team. He then joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Philadelphia during World War II and on the USS Bristol during the Korean conflict, until his discharge in 1952.

After 43 years’ employment, he retired in 1988 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and he was lockmaster at Lock No. 7 in Greensboro from 1965 to 1988.

Mr. McKee was a very active member, deacon and trustee of Greensboro Baptist Church for many years until his health failed. He was also a 60-year member of American Legion Post 816 in Rices Landing and a 48-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 in Greensboro.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Gloria Jean (Rohrer) McKee, whom he married May 23, 1946; three children and their spouses, Gary Don McKee of Toano, Va., Diane Raye and Paul Dumont of Barrackville, W.Va., and Shelly Kendall and Jay Donley of Bobtown; and six grandchildren, Kim McKee and Steve Fonner of Washington, Gary Allen and Janelle McKee of Chester, Va., Ryan and Amy Dumont of Jane Lew, W.Va., Bart and Sheena Donley of Uniontown, Jayce Donley of Dilliner and Matthew Dumont of Fairmont, W.Va. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Morgan Fonner, Mya McKee, Jaxon Donley and Oliver Dumont; two sisters, Joyce Hunt of Rices Landing and Nancy Christopher of Waynesburg; a sister-in-law, Marie McKee of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Deceased are siblings Doris Rager and Dale McKee and a granddaughter, Shea Dumont.

Honoring the wishes of the deceased, there will be no public services. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion. Memorials may be offered to Greensboro Baptist Church, in care of Charles Mallory, treasurer, P.O. Box 302, Greensboro, PA 15338.
