He was born November 14, 1915, in Wana, W.Va., a son of the late George Henry and Emza Jane Cummins Cross.
Mr. Cross had resided in West Virginia most of his life and had wintered in Florida from 1985 until 1992, prior to moving to Waynesburg in December 2005. He made his home with his son, William Cross, in Rogersville since January 2012.
He was a member of First Assembly of God, Eastview, and was a 1935 graduate of Wadestown (W.Va.) High School.
Mr. Cross had farmed for several years in West Virginia, raising beef cattle, and was last employed as a truck driver for 36 years with the West Virginia Department of Highways in the Pentress and Saberton areas prior to retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed listening to gospel quartets, playing the card game of Skip-Bo and a domino game called turkeyfoot.
On November 14, 1940, he married Geraldine Renner, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William, husband of Gwen Cross of Rogersville, and Rick, husband of Kathy Cross of Waynesburg; a daughter, Deborah Lynn, wife of Robert Brookover of Pentress; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a daughter, Carolyn Jane Thomas, who died in 1992.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, with Pastor Richard Ritenour officiating. Private interment will follow in Wadestown (W.Va.) Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Assembly of God, Eastview, 4131 West Roy Furman Highway, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
