Norman Joshua Smitley, 91, of Garards Fort, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.

Mr. Smitley was born December 30, 1921, in Filbert, a son of the late Adam K. and Dorothy Taylor Smitley.

He was married for 56 years to Ina Jean Blaker Smitley, who died January 11, 2000.

Surviving are his second wife, Jane Barclay Smitley; a daughter, Linda Clites (Donald); four grandchildren, Christian Clites (fiancee Angela Stout), Jill Clites Brennan (Timothy), Julie Smitley Bullboff (John) and Adam Smitley; six great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Joshua and Emma Clites, Cohen Stout, Fallon Bullboff and Bishop Smitley; and two stepchildren, William Barclay (Karen) and Romona Fordyce (Edwin), and their families.

A son, David Neil Smitley; a brother, Ray Smitley; and two sisters, Dorothy Papula and Thelma Bryner, are deceased.

Mr. Smitley was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carmichaels and Carmichaels Lions Club for many years. He was the last Man of the Year of the Lions Club before that recognition was discontinued.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to noon Monday, January 28, in Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, 724-966-5100, Paul M. Lesako, owner/funeral director/supervisor. A service will begin at noon in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gale Cobb officiating. View the obituary at
