Maxine Kaye Pettit Beecham

May 17, 1930 – January 10, 2013

Maxine Kaye Pettit Beecham, 82, of Tucson, Ariz., died Thursday, January 10, 2013.

She was born May 17, 1930, in Greene County, a daughter of the late Francis E. Sr. and Ethel Pettit.

Mrs. Beecham was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School.

In 1959, she was married to Trevor W. Beecham.

She worked for Harper’s Feed Mill and a gas company and was a mail carrier in Eighty Four.

Mrs. Beecham was a graduate of a beauty school and enjoyed working for Welcome Wagon in Lafayette, La.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, including Francis E. Pettit Jr., Alma Jean Miller, Cheerful Fox and John Pettit, former Washington County district attorney.

Mrs. Beecham was active in her church all her life. She recently served as a deacon at Capilla del Sol Christian Church in Tucson, where she attended.

Surviving are her husband, Trevor W. Beecham of Arizona; a son, Kit T. Donley (wife Paula) of Tucson; a son, Rex W. Donley (wife Karel) of Helotes, Texas; six grandchildren, Dax, Kelli, Garrett, Cody, Kate and Cale; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 2, in Tucson. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Desert Southwest Chapter, 1028 East McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85006.


William J. Fargo Sr.

USW member enjoyed hunting

William J. Fargo Sr., 75, of Fredericktown (Deemston Borough), died Saturday, January 26, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born October 15, 1937, in Daisytown, a son of the late Louis and Julia Micsky Fargo.

Mr. Fargo was a 1955 graduate of Ellsworth High School.

He was employed by Copperweld Steel as a pipefitter for 28 years, until its closing in 1983. He later worked as a maintenance supervisor for Bentleyville Apartments until his retirement.

Mr. Fargo was a member of United Steel Workers of America Local 1407.

He enjoyed building and repairing guns, and was certified as a gunsmith. His hobbies included hunting, vegetable gardening, tinkering in his garage and helping his family and neighbors in any way he could. Spending time with his children and grandchildren brought him special enjoyment.

On July 10, 1959, he married Annetta Ann Rhodes Fargo, who died December 29, 2007.

Surviving are three children, Virginia White of Indianapolis, Ind., William Fargo Jr. of Fredericktown and Kellie Murray (Mark) of Westminster, Md.; five grandchildren, Mark White Jr. of Indianapolis, Eric White of Washington, Grace Geibel of Butler and Alexander and Adam Murray, both of Westminster; two brothers, Louis Fargo (Martha) of Daisytown and Robert Fargo (Marie) of Bentleyville; a sister, Sandra Gasher (Ron) of Scenery Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, with the Rev. Robert Rondinelli officiating. Interment will be in Buckingham Cemetery, Fredericktown. Randall Charles Hudgkin

Longtime Canonsburg Shop ’n Save butcher

Randall Charles Hudgkin, 66, of Washington, formerly of Hunker and Canonsburg, died Friday, January 25, 2013, in his home.

He was born December 2, 1946, in Hunker, Westmoreland County, a son of the late John Ellis and Beatrice Leah Hudgkin.

Mr. Hudgkin worked as a butcher at Canonsburg Shop ’n Save for more than 35 years.

He was a member of Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club and Canonsburg Sportsmen’s Club.

Surviving are three daughters, Wendy Sue Knopp, Sheri Hudgkin and Patricia Hudgkin Wisner, all of Washington; a brother, Keith Hudgkin (Diane) of the Hunker-Armburst area; a sister, Cathy Sweinsburg (Dennis) of Connecticut; and six grandchildren, Derrick and Nathaniel Knopp, Brandon Oest, Isabella Hudgkin, Cody Hudgkin and Chad Wisner.

Deceased is his wife, Carol Lee Hudgkin, who died August 17, 2009.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, January 27, in William G. Beloved wife and devoted mother

Mary Joan Knavish Koenig, 79, of Castle Shannon, died Friday, January 25, 2013.

She was the beloved wife for 53 years of the late Romuald E. “Ron” Koenig; devoted mother of Kathy (Gary) Rivet, Donna Koenig (Robert Kreke), Paul (Molly) Koenig, David (Rick Stachel) Koenig, Maura (John) McConnell, Joan (Bob) Grudi, Mark (Melanie) Koenig and Tom Johnston; sister of Rita Claire Koenig, Ray Knavish and the late Leonard “Bud” and Jack Knavish; loving grandmother of Megan and Kelly Rivet, Joshua, Ryan and Shannon Koenig, Caleb and Maggie McConnell, Madison and Morgan Grudi and Andrew and Mackenzie Koenig; and great-grandmother of Preston, Arthur, Felix and another angel due soon.

Friends will be welcomed from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Laughlin Memorial Chapel Inc., 1008 Castle Shannon Boulevard, Castle Shannon. Shirley Naomi Anderson McAfee

Formerly of Washington

Shirley Naomi Anderson McAfee, 80, of Chandler, Ariz., went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 14, 2013.

She was born February 21, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late David Harrison and Rosetta Beryl McCullough Anderson.

Also deceased are three brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. McAfee was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School.

She was employed at the former Livingston’s Apparel Store in Washington.

On May 27, 1950, in Broad Street Baptist Church, she married Ivan Paul McAfee Jr. They were married for 58 years before he went home with Jesus on February 3, 2009.

Surviving are a son, I. Paul (Aimee) McAfee III of the state of California; three daughters, Trudy Hadden of Florida, Karen (Johnny) Johnson of Texas and Julie (Donald) Hines of Arizona; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Bob) Brinkman, Sam (Stephanie) Johnson, Nathan (Amanda) Johnson, Seth (Julie) Johnson, Harmony McAfee (Jim Medina), Megan Gailey, Tessie (Lucas) Alexander, Johanna (Aaron) Mackey, Derek Hines (fiancée Kati Satterberg) and Elyssa and Felicity Hines; eight great-grandchildren, Coral, Brayden and Andrew Gailey, Molly and Clive Johnson, Will and Charlie Johnson and Jillian Johnson; and a childhood friend, Peggy Boswell Hutchison.

Cremation has taken place according to her wishes.
