Kathleen Bowden Salminen, 86, better known as “Bunny” or sometimes “Kay,” of Carroll Township, died suddenly from a heart attack, Monday, January 28, 2013.

She was born February 9, 1926, and matured in Momauguin, East Haven, Conn.

Mrs. Salminen was a 1944 graduate of East Haven High School.

Even before graduation, she started wartime work in the paper industry and later for the American Steel and Wire Co.

She married Gus Salminen in 1953. Upon his transfer to Donora, they settled in Mar-Rick Manor, Carroll Township, in 1956.

In her youth, she enjoyed golf, gardening and contract bridge. In later years, she enjoyed traveling, especially narrow boating on the canals of England and Wales, and a 4 o’clock glass of single-malt Scotch.

Deceased are her husband, Adolph A. “Gus” Salminen; a daughter, Leslie; and a son, Andrew.

Surviving are sons David and Rusty; daughter-in-law Claire Jalbert; sisters Bettye Cote, Roberta Cordner and Marjorie Bloom; and brother Robert.

Private burial was held in Monongahela Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 3, in First Presbyterian Church chapel, Sixth and Main streets, Monongahela, with the Rev. Mark Woomer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to a cause she strongly supported as an avid reader, Monongahela Area Library, 813 West Main Street, Monongahela, PA 15063. Frye Funeral Home Inc., is in charge of the arrangements.
