Man seeks sentence reduction in 2009 murder

January 31, 2013

SOMERSET (AP) — A judge says he will consider reducing the sentence of a man who pleaded guilty to a murder charge in the slaying of a man found shot in the kitchen of a Western Pennsylvania apartment more than three years ago.

Twenty-six-year-old Ronald Ziegel Jr. was sentenced to eight to 30 years in the August 2009 killing of 29-year-old Bryant Adderly. Prosecutors in Somerset County said he drove two shooters to the complex, but also led police and prosecutors to the murder weapons and other suspects.

Ziegel asked a judge to merge a previous drug sentence with the third-degree murder term, essentially cutting three years off his remaining prison time.

Prosecutors said they wouldn’t object, given his cooperation. Three other men are serving prison terms in the case.
