MCKEES ROCKS (AP) – Police say a 19-year-old man jailed on charges he killed a Pittsburgh-area community activist has told a witness the slaying happened after the victim had a dispute with his alleged attacker over marijuana.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for 19-year-old Sean Overton, of Moon Township, who was arrested Wednesday in the slaying of 61-year-old Isaiah Dent, who was found stabbed and beaten Monday in his apartment.
Friends describe Dent as a community activist who also sold jewelry and African-themed clothing he designed.
A witness who helped lead police to Overton says the suspect confessed to killing Dent because the victim allegedly stole marijuana from Overton and also didn’t pay the full amount for another marijuana purchase.
Overton is charged with criminal homicide, robbery and tampering with evidence.
