High school basketball: Wash High picks up important key 4-AA win
Josh Wise scored 22 points to lead Wash High to a 53-46 win at Brentwood, which helped the Prexies inch one step closer to the No. 2 spot in Section 4-AA.
Jaylin Kelly had 10 points, Darius Spinks eight, and Jordan Drew finished with seven points and nine rebounds for the Prexies, who separated with a 21-9 edge in the third quarter.
Wash High is now 7-4, 15-6 with one section game to go – Friday at home against Burgettstown.
Brentwood (5-6, 10-9) got 19 points from Jason Pilarski.
Westinghouse 65, Monessen 61: Justice Rawlins had a triple-double, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, but it wasn’t enough as Monessen was outscored by 12 in the final quarter of a 65-61, non-section loss to visiting Westinghouse.
The Greyhounds, who got 23 points from Clintell Gillaspie, shot just two free throws compared to 21 for Westinghouse.
Tyler Yuille finished with 12 rebounds and 10 blocks for Monessen, which falls to 7-10.
Chartiers-Houston 65, South Side Beaver 36: Dylan Pounds scored 23 points – all in the first half – while Sam Shade had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead Chartiers-Houston to a 65-36 home victory over South Side Beaver in a non-section game.
Alec Ferrari had 14 points and Je’Vone Hairston helped out with 10 for the Bucs, who improved to 6-13.
Jon Magusiak led South Side Beaver (7-13) with 16 points.
Seton-La Salle 75, Fort Cherry 36: Seton-La Salle remained perfect in Section 4-AA with a 75-36 win over Fort Cherry.
Ryan Norkus scored 13 points, Levi Masua added 12 and Dom DelGreco 11, as the Rebels improved to 10-0, 18-2.
Zak Dysert led Fort Cherry (1-9, 3-15) with 14 points.
Seton-La Salle built a 38-22 lead by halftime and outscored the Rangers, 17-8, in the third period to pull away.
