Columbia Gas retiree, Army veteran
Telfer L. “Woody” Wales, 90, of Eighty Four, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born February 24, 1922, in Iron River, Mich., a son of the late Sidney and Beatrice Yoe Wales.
Mr. Wales attended the public schools in Iron River.
He retired in 1982 from Columbia Gas after 30 years of service.
Mr. Wales was a member of Davidson United Methodist Church in Glyde, where he held several offices.
A veteran, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Service Group, in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Henry cruiser and the USS Salem.
On April 19, 1950, he married Sylvia Sumney, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Ronnie Lee Wales (wife Jill Jansante Wales) of Canonsburg, Lonnie Ray Wales (wife Janice Sawhill Wales) of Midway and Gary Lynn Wales of Eighty Four; four grandchildren, Nicole Linn Lloyd of Lumberton, N.C., Stevie Rae Wales Disilvio of Carnegie and Riley Alexander Wales and Glenna Collette Wales, both of Canonsburg; two great-grandsons, Braden Samuel Lloyd and Noah Christen Lloyd; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers and three sisters.
Friends are welcome from 1 to 2 p.m., the time of service, Thursday, February 7, in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, with the Rev. Patty Comini-Miller officiating. Private interment will be in Washington Cemetery.
