Cal’s McMasters scores 56 in win

Courtney McMasters set a school record by scoring 56 points in California’s 81-31 victory over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game.


McMasters sank 20 field goals, five three-pointers and 11 free throws to mover her career point total to 966. McMasters, who played into the fourth quarter, needs 34 points in the final two regular season games to hit 1,000.


Danielle Koehler scored 12 points for the Trojans (5-4, 14-6), who led 47-15 at halftime and 61-27 after three quarters.


Renee Dingle led the Maples (0-9, 0-17) with eight points.


Carmichaels 64, Bentworth 26: Caroline Cree tied a girls school record by sinking seven three-point field goals in Carmichaels’ 64-26 victory over Bentworth in a non-section game.


Cree finished with 21 points for the Mikes (18-3), who outscored Bentworth 48-10 over the middle two quarters. Morgan Berardi chipped in with 18 points, including two three-point field goals.


Taylor Pompei paced Bentworth (7-14) with 26 points.


Ringgold 52, Canon-McMillan 45: Ringgold went on a 26-5 run in the second quarter to take a commanding lead, then held off Canon-McMillan in the end for a 52-45 non-section win.


Bailey Cooper had 16 points, Josie Schmidt 13 and Marlena Schmidt 11 for the Rams (10-10), who saw a 26-7 halftime lead trimmed to 47-45 with 30 seconds remaining.


Danielle Parker had 14 points, while Brittany Hutchinson had 12 for the Big Macs (8-12).


Thomas Jefferson 67, Waynesburg 23: Thomas Jefferson jumped to a 23-6 lead after one period and rolled to a 67-23 victory over Waynesburg in a Section 4-AAA game.


Alexas Yanief led TJ (5-6, 8-12) with 23 points, Paige Risley had 12 points and Courtney Zoglmann had 10.


Danielle Jacobs pace Waynesburg (0-11, 3-16) with eight points.


South Fayette 57, Peters Township 29: South Fayette used a balanced scoring attack to take a 57-29 victory from Peters Township in a non-section game.


Caitlin McLuckie, Min Wells and Lauren Crites each scored nine points for the Lions (14-6), who outscored the Indians, 37-15, in the second half.


Madison Kerr scored 16 points for Peters Township (3-17).


Boys Results


Frazier 82, Bentworth 70: Five players scored in double figures and Frazier rallied in the fourth quarter to hand Bentworth an 82-70 that dampened the Bearcats’ playoff hopes in Section 5-AA.


Roger Kline had a team-high 22 points for Frazier (4-9, 6-13), which pulled into a tie with Bentworth in the standings and one game back of a possible playoff berth. Jared Rebovich had 15 points and Vince Bucci added 13. Paul Pellick and Chuck Manack each had 11.


The Commodores trailed Bentworth, 53-49 but outscored the Bearcats, 33-17, over the final eight minutes.


Cody Levin had 26 points and Chris Blackburn 25 for the Bearcats (4-9, 7-13). Zach Robker chipped in with 10.


Jefferson-Morgan 54, Beth-Center 40: Travis Taylor and Rece Henneman had 17 points each as Jefferson-Morgan won a key Section 5-AA game against Beth-Center, 54-40.


The victory, which improves the Rockets’ record to 5-8 in section and 10-11 overall, moved them into a tie with Beth-Center (5-8, 9-11) for fourth place in the section with both teams having one game remaining.


Beth-Center was led by Anthony Gilpin’s 15 points, while Dean Holt had 11 and Adam Watkins 10 in the losing effort.


Monessen 78, Geibel Catholic 48: Nicodemus Payne had 14 points and 18 rebounds as Monessen rebounded from a loss Tuesday night at Carmichaels to beat Geibel, 78-48, in a Section 3-A game.


Clintell Gilaspie added 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Luke Doptis had 10 points and Justin Rawlins added 11 rebounds for the Greyhounds (6-2, 8-11).


Aaron Agostini had 20 points to lead Geibel (1-8. 2-16).


Waynesburg 88, Mapletown 51: Adam Fox had 21 points as Waynesburg defeated Mapletown, 88-51, in a non-section game.


John Glenn Davis and Willy Ziefel had 13 points each, and Cameron Jacobs and Dominick Sarra added 11 each for the Raiders (4-16).


Dereck Riggleman had 22 points, and Kevin Ridgley 13 for the Maples (5-14).
