Robert Duane Verner, 79, of Washington, formerly of South Franklin Township, died Friday, February 8, 2013, in Humbert Lane Personal Care Center, Washington.
He was born January 15, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late James D. and Florence Mounts Verner.
Mr. Verner served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Upon discharge, he returned to Washington to work in his father’s garage. After his father’s passing, he owned and operated Verner’s Garage for many years.
He was a contractor for McGuffey School District and drove a school bus.
Mr. Verner was a member of the Claysville Sportsman’s Club, where he participated in and received many trophies for trapshooting. He also won the Tri-State Icicle League Men’s Championship in 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Sherri Sulkowski of Canonsburg and Elizabeth Minor of Lock Haven; two brothers, James D. and David W. (Cheryl) Verner, both of Washington; four sisters, Dorothy Wootton of Washington, Shirley Wadsworth of Mansfield, Ohio, Elizabeth (John) Baldwin of Claysville and Nancy (William) Stollar of Washington; and several grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hummell and Jones Funeral Home Inc., Washington. At the request of the family, all services will be private. Interment will take place in Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Humbert Lane Personal Care Center or Three Rivers Hospice, both of Washington.
