Rita A. McIlwain, 90, of Canonsburg, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 11, in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Canonsburg, with Father Charles Weiss officiating. Friends and family may gather in the undercroft after the service.
She was born October 20, 1922, in Detroit, Mich.
After graduating from high school in Detroit, she attended Ohio University and worked as a lab technician in several hospitals.
Mrs. McIlwain was married to Eugene M. McIlwain, who is deceased. During their marriage, they resided in Corning, N.Y., Louisville, Ky., Jamestown, N.Y., Cherry Hill, N.J., and Belleville, Ill., finally settling in Canonsburg in 1971.
After marriage, she was a homemaker who enjoyed golfing and bridge. She was active in the Girl Scouts organization for many years. After her daughter left home, she worked for the Green Thumb Program, matching employers with job openings to senior citizens looking for work.
She was very active in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, serving on the Altar Guild, in the Sunday School program and raising donations for the building fund.
Surviving are a sister, Shirley Adamcheck; a daughter, Michelle Wynn; a son-in law, Guy Wynn; and their children, Jessica Gibson, Rob (Kyle) Wynn and Danielle Wynn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Building Fund and Meals on Wheels.
