Look toward Robert Goulet

  • February 9, 2013

Can’t the NFL get it right? While Alicia Keys’ presentation of our National Anthem was lovely, it was her interpretation of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Some people believe that “God Bless America” or “America, the Beautiful” replace the National Anthem. While both of these songs are really beautiful, truth be told, neither of them reflect the history and patriotism found in all the verses written by Francis Scott Key as he was being held hostage during the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

Perhaps the NFL should be looking for someone of Robert Goulet’s caliber. The Canadian-born Goulet came to the United States and entertained us with a rich, magnificent voice. Someone of his talent could do justice to our anthem and sing it as it is written.

Besides, I’m 92 years old, and I would appreciate hearing “The Star Spangled Banner” properly rendered before my game is over.
