Sharon K. Johnston
Sharon K. Johnston, 58, of Waynesburg, died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in the home of her niece, Kelly Wolfe, in Mather, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
She was born Wednesday, March 10, 1954, in Waynesburg, a daughter of Lorraine Headley Johnston of Waynesburg and the late Glenn H. Johnston.
Ms. Johnston was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Lippencott, where she was in the church choir and Ladies Fellowship. She also served as church treasurer, a Sunday school teacher and a vacation Bible school worker.
She was a a 1972 graduate of Jefferson Morgan High School and a 1975 graduate of Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing. She received 36 credits toward her bachelor of science in nursing degree at Penn State University Fayette Campus. She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Waynesburg College in 1991.
Ms. Johnston worked in the Uniontown Hospital emergency room and in the pediatrics unit of the hosptial. She then worked for 25 years in Greene County Memorial Hosptial and during the same time, worked occasionally in the Mon General Hospital emergency room. She then worked full-time for Mon General Hospital as the infection control coordinator. At the time of her death, she was clinical data specialist at Mon General.
She also worked part-time as the clinical nursing instructor for Waynesburg College from 1993 to 1996, having students at Greene County Memorial Hospital, Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Mon General Hosptial and Health South Rehab for sophomore level and leadership for seniors. She worked for Care Unlimited Home Health Care for a short period, caring for children with G-tubes and trachs. She had her certification for emergency nursing.
Ms. Johnston was a past member of SEIU, Sigma Theta Tau and Greene County Nurses Club. She was known as the family planner and usually was in charge of arranging reunions and family get togethers.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Patricia (Jerry) Rhodes of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, William H. Johnston of Clarksville; nieces and nephews Sheri (Scott) Glass and Lori (Harry) Denby, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Mark Piroch of Scranton, Glenn Piroch of Waynesburg, Tracy (Jeff) Elliott of Farmington, W.Va., Kelly (John) Wolfe of Mather, Aaron (Angie) Johnston of West Newton and Cheryl (Dave) Piroch of Marianna; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Glenn Howard “Bud” Johnston and Douglas Johnston, and a sister-in-law, Leandra Johnston.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Faith Baptist Church, 793 Lippencott Road, Waynesburg (Lippencott), where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, with the Rev. Paul Roofner officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
