Charles G. Patterson
Retired steelworker, active volunteer, CCNS officer
Charles G. “Wimpy” Patterson, 84, of Canonsburg, died Monday, February 11, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born January 7, 1929, in Houston, a son of the late Edward and Charlotte Hagan Patterson.
Mr. Patterson served his country in the U.S. Army.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a steelworker for Universal Cyclops.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Patterson was an active member of the community, belonging to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and the Elks and volunteered in South Central Elementary School in Canonsburg. He was one of the original officers of CCNS youth wrestling program, umpired baseball locally for 15 years, volunteered for Canon-McMillan girls softball and enjoyed playing dartball.
On August 4, 1950, he married Alice Mosely of Canonsburg, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Daryl Patterson and wife Julie of Houston, Texas, and Gary Patterson and wife Yvonne of Houston; a daughter, Dottie Johnson and fiance Tim of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Dwayne “Curly” Patterson of Houston and Gerald Patterson of Houston; a sister, Dorothy Patterson of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director. Services will be held Friday, February 15, at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray.
