Program to focus on prescription drugs

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 15,000 people die every year from overdoses involving prescription painkillers, and 1 in 20 people in the United States 12 or older reported using prescription painkillers in 2010 for nonmedical reasons.

Several students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy will discuss prescription drug misuse among youth from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Peters Township Public Library.

They will outline associated risks and how to identify and prevent abuse. The presentation also will include a video clip and some role-playing scenarios. The interactive session is geared toward parents and grandparents and is not suitable for children.

Register for the program by emailing programs@ptlibrary.org, visiting the library’s circulation desk or calling 724-941-9430.
