Striking a nerve?

February 18, 2013

Your Feb. 10 editorial on the U.S. Postal Service ending Saturday mail delivery was well received.

Really, the future of the Postal Service is in jeopardy, knowing that entitlements to retirees have to be faced, along with the future of the USPS in the electronic age.

When I lived in the Thomas Campbell Apartments in Washington, I noticed how much third-class junk mail was regularly delivered every Thursday. I also noticed the handling fee was significantly smaller than the 45-cent first-class fee.

Does this strike a nerve with those merchants who distribute the flyers, because they, as a national lobby group, contribute to the federal government’s revenue?
