PSADA honors Vulcano

Frank Vulcano Jr., athletic director at Chartiers Valley High School, will be honored with the PIAA District VII Athletic Director of the Year Award.

Vulcano, a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School and California University, has been active with the state organization for 13 years. He served as president of the District 7 (WPIAL) Athletic Directors Association for two years and vice president for two more. He was a member of the board of control from 2007-09.

Vulcano serves as chairman of the WPIAL Wrestling Steering Committee and has been tournament director for all section and district tournaments for the past nine years. He has hosted 275 WPIAL playoff games and nearly 50 District 7 championship events.

Vulcano has served on the PIAA Wrestling Steering Committee since 2004 and is vice president of the Washington County Chapter of the PIAA Wrestling Officials.

Vulcano has been inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Washington-Greene County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and the California University Sports Hall of Fame.

For the past 27 years, he has been tournament director of the Powerade Christmas Wrestling Tournament.
