Eighty Four man charged
An Eighty Four man accused of intentionally ramming his vehicle into a vehicle driven by a Bentleyville woman earlier this month was arraigned Friday on charges including aggravated assault by motor vehicle.
Carl Thomas Ornot, 60, of 24 Sugar Run Road, is accused of deliberately hitting a vehicle driven by Kiva Huffman Feb. 10 as she drove on West Patterson Road and then at the intersection with Brownlee Road, North Strabane Township.
Huffman told North Strabane police Sgt. Keith Hutter that she and Ornot are acquaintances. She said that when she called to check on Ornot, he did not sound right, so she drove over to his home to check on him.
While Huffman was at the home, she and Ornot reportedly got into an argument, so she left the house, Hutter said.
Huffman pulled to the side of the road to get something out of her purse when she saw Ornot coming down the road at a high speed. She reportedly pulled back on to the road and he started banging his vehicle into hers, allegedly trying to force her into a ditch, Hutter said.
When Huffman got to the intersection of Brownlee, she stopped and made a left turn. Ornot pulled on the left side and his vehicle struck hers, knocking both into a guard rail, the sergeant said.
Huffman initially refused treatment after the crash but later went to Canonsburg General Hospital where she was treated for a head injury, Hutter said.
Ornot is also charged with reckless endangerment and several traffic violations. He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and released on his own recognizance with an order to have no contact with Huffman. A preliminary hearing is set for March 5 before Weller.
