We doubt this week’s Mystery Photo will be as obvious to our readers as last week’s picture of a bend in the Monongahela River. We haven’t a clue where this house with the ivy-covered porch might have been because there are no landmarks or topographical oddities in the picture, other than a barren hillside in the background.
The horses are wearing blinders and funny rabbit-ear hats. Or perhaps those are some sort of ear protection. We’re hoping equestrian historians can help us out.
A man is standing on the sidewalk just to the left of the horses. Under magnification, we can see he is wearing a bow tie and straw hat and smoking a pipe. Two boxes with handles – one of them perhaps a doctor’s satchel – are at his feet. Zoom in between the horses’ heads and you may be able to detect the face of a woman wearing a dark hat.
We’d like to know where this house is or was, the identity of the man in the photo and when it was taken. If you happen to know, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400.
With a little luck, we’ll be able to solve this mystery and publish the results next Monday.
