Longtime member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church

Ida E. Froats, 89, of Washington, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in her home.

She was born March 26, 1923, in Manifold, a daughter of the late John and Mary Kostelick Buchte.

Mrs. Froats was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands.

She was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Froats enjoyed taking care of her family and cooking for family get-togethers. She loved working outdoors and tending to her beautiful flower garden. She enjoyed walking and appreciating all of nature, but especially feeding and watching her birds. For many years, she participated in the annual Audubon Western Pennsylvania bird count.

On July 25, 1944, she married Thomas E. Froats, who died June 10, 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas Brian (Ida) Froats of Sycamore and Bernard Allen “Bernie” (Brenda) Froats of Washington; four daughters, Linda (Walter) Hindes of Pittsburgh, Diane (John) Lese of Bentleyville, Valerie (Duane) Brautigam of Tallahassee, Fla., and Elizabeth “Betsy” O’Leary of Harrison City; two sisters, Jennie Buchte of Washington and Cecelia Jeffers of Weirton, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, Albert and Joseph Buchte, and five sisters, Rose Buchte, Jessie Prosen, Marie Pardeaux, Helen Rudy and Mary Buchte.

Her neighbors and friends provided many acts of kindness over the years. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Wednesday, February 27, in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Father Carmen D’Amico as celebrant. Those wishing to attend the Mass are asked to go directly to the church Wednesday. Burial will be private.
