But after telling Canonsburg police that she was assaulted by Donald W. Adams, 42, of 427 Blue Jay Drive, Jennifer Mlatnik, 39, also of 427 Blue Jay, reportedly changed her story and claimed that she fell.
Police were called about 2:40 a.m. after a caller reported a man and woman arguing in the middle of the street. When police arrived, they found Mlatnik bleeding from the mouth and nose. When she learned Adams was going to be arrested, Mlatnik claimed she fell while running after him to get her cellphone.
While police were at the scene, a witness told police she saw Adams hit Mlatnik and kick her in the stomach.
North Strabane police were called to Canonsburg General Hospital about 3:55 a.m. by emergency room personnel who reported that an intoxicated woman refused to have a CAT scan or blood work done until after she smoked a cigarette. Police arrived and learned the woman, identified as Mlatnik, had previously left the hospital before the tests could be performed.
After talking with doctors, police agreed to stand with Mlatnik outside the hospital while she smoked a cigarette. She then returned inside for the tests.
Adams was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $1,000 bond.
