WAYNESBURG – An enchanted evening is planned for March 16 with the third annual Greene County Historical Society Dinner Dance coming to the National Guard Readiness Center, 500 Evergreene Drive, Waynesburg.

If you are a fan of big band music, the Beaver Bop Cats will once again provide the swinging songs of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and the like. Helping to set the mood, the center will be awash in décor that transcends time back to the days of eight-cent loaves of bread and serial radio shows, said Wayne Hart, chairman of the dinner/dance.

“Due to overwhelming response the past two years, I am proud to say we are welcoming the Bop Cats back for their third performance here in Greene County,” said Hart of the event that serves as a fundraiser for the historical society. The Bop Cats is an 18-piece band with full sections of sax, trombone, trumpet, rhythm and vocals that began playing together 17 years ago in Beaver County.

Over the past two years, the dinner dance has brought in approximately $10,000 for the society’s endeavors, according to Hart. He said the event averages 200 patrons and he is expecting the same for the third outing.

“I have had great feedback after the event these past two years. People just loved it,” Hart said. “The food, the music and the dancing made for a good time for all that attended.”

This year, the buffet will be under the direction of Alladin Food Services of Waynesburg University. Entrees will include roast beef, ham and stuffed chicken. Side dishes will include red-skin potatoes, penne pasta with marinara sauce, vegetable blend mix and tossed salad. Desserts and vegetable and cheese tray appetizers will also be provided. Beverages will include iced tea, coffee and water with an opportunity to purchase wine from Thistlethwaite’s Winery. Guests may also bring their own beverages.

Thistlethwaites will once again offer wine tasting throughout the evening.

Be sure to check out the historical society artifacts display in the lobby.

The doors to the readiness center will open at 5:45 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30. The Bop Cats will play from 6 to 10 p.m. A Chinese auction, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing will be held. The cost of tickets are $35 per person.
