Two people were injured in a two-truck accident on Interstate 79 in Amwell Township Tuesday night.

State police said a box truck driven by Rafael Klain, 66, of Buffalo, N.Y., became disabled southbound near mile marker 25 and was parked with the left rear of the truck extending into the right lane of the road. A pickup truck driven by Kenneth Prangler, 24, of Shinnston, W.Va., was traveling in the right southbound lane and at 6:44 p.m. struck the left rear of the box truck.

The impact caused the box truck to roll over next to the guardrail, police said. Prangler’s truck spun and rolled down the highway until it came to rest on its side across both lanes.

Police said Prangler, who was wearing a seat belt, was able to crawl from his truck and was transported by ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. Klain was extricated from his truck and flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.

Police closed the southbound lanes of I-79 for about two hours.

Responding to the accident were state police, Amwell and Lone Pine volunteer fire departments, Washington Ambulance and Chair and STAT MedEvac.

The severity of the drivers’ injuries was unknown.

State police will continue to investigate.
