Nick Mecannic, 90, of Burgettstown, Hanover Township, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in his home.
He was born March 3, 1923, a son of the late Alec and Catherine Schrockman Mecannic.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in Japan and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He retired from Starvaggi Coal Co. and was a member of the Laborers Union.
His wife, Grace Eileen Cook Mecannic, whom he married April 5, 1951, passed away August 5, 2004.
Surviving are a brother, Harry Mecannic of Frankfort Springs, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are four brothers, Mike, Steve, Pete and Robert Mecannic; and four sisters, Ann Andrews, Mary Brooks, Rose Duni and Steffie Watson.
To honor Mr. Mecannic’s wishes, there will be no public visitation and interment with military honors in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Burgettstown, will be held privately under the direction of Lee & Martin Funeral Home, Burgettstown.
